Grade 8/9 Parents and Guardians, We’ve had a great start to the school year at St. Francis and we are looking forward to the year ahead. This email is just to ensure that you are all aware of a couple specific policies at the school pertaining to students in grade 8 and 9. PLC/Early Dismissal On certain Wednesdays (which are listed below), school will let out at 2:05 PM for early dismissal. Students in grades 8 and 9 that are not caught up on their coursework are asked to remain during this time to complete any outstanding assignments with support and supervision. Over the years, this has been a very successful way of ensuring that students are keeping up with their schoolwork by providing them additional work time, should they require it. If a student with outstanding assignments fails to attend, they will be asked to complete the work during a supervised study hall on the following Friday, over the lunch period. Parents will also be contacted in the event that a student fails to attend. Please do not schedule appointments on early dismissal days prior to 3:15 PM unless absolutely necessary. 2024/25 PLC Dates:
8/9 Cell Phone Expectations Students in grades 8 and 9 are not permitted to have cell phones in classrooms during class time. Instead, students are asked to keep cell phones in their lockers, where they are welcome to use them at breaks and over the lunch period. Attached is a more detailed outline of the policy. If you need to contact your child during class time, please phone the office at 667-5901 and they will be able to put you in touch. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
