Early Dismissal Friday

This was included in the previous newsletter, but we wanted to make sure it was very clear to everyone that this Friday, March 7, the St. Francis school day will end at 11:30. The building will remain open until 12:00 noon and then be closed. The cafeteria will be closed on Friday and there will not be supervision after that time. 

Please note that the yellow school buses will not be picking up our students at the end of day.  We are asking parents to make alternative arrangements for students who take the yellow bus to get home after the 11:30 dismissal. We have reached out to Operations about this concern, as we know the inconvenience this may cause, but the buses are unable to do a ‘double run’ and so the elementary schools, which are dismissing later, will be prioritized for bus service.

This schedule change is part of an ‘adjustment day’ that was implemented at the department level to ensure our instructional minutes were in line with the requirements of The Yukon Education Act ,which mandates the amount of instructional time for the year, and the minimum and maximum length of school days. This year, both St. Francis and FH Collins, as well as a number of Whitehorse elementary schools, require an adjustment in instructional minutes, hence the early dismissal.
