School is almost back in session!

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students:
 
Thank you for taking the time to read and review the following information about school start up.  We hope you and your family have enjoyed the summer months and are looking forward to back to school routines.  At Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Secondary, we are busy with final preparations to welcome students back. We will be welcoming our grade 8 students on August 26th for an orientation day just for our incoming grade 8s. Please see the information below about grade 8 orientation.

This “message to families” contains preliminary information regarding our school start up and will hopefully clarify any questions you might still be pondering and allow you to plan for the week.

The first day of school for all students is on August 27th. We will begin with a school-wide assembly to welcome our students back. After the assembly, students will receive their timetable.
Once students have their timetables, students will be going to each class on their schedule throughout the day to meet their teachers, go over classroom and school expectations, and receive their class syllabus.
Students who will need timetable changes must put their names on the sign-up sheet in the office and the guidance counsellors will call them down throughout the week to make changes. Students will have until the end of the day on September 6th to make necessary changes.
 
Orientation Day for Grade 8 Students
Each year, we host an optional orientation day for Grade 8 students the day before school begins.  This year, that afternoon is on Monday, August 26th from 12:30pm until 2:30 p.m. Parents are welcome to come in with their child in the first part of the orientation (12:30-1:00) if they have any questions for us or the office.

Students will receive their timetable/schedule on this day so that they can familiarize themselves with their schedule and teachers before the first day of school for all students on August 27th.
 
During this time, students will be introduced to each other and spend some time in their homeroom classes where they will receive their finalized timetable, be issued a locker and spend some time discussing school expectations.  After this, the students will participate in a fun activity that will help them to get to know the layout of the school better. 

Although this is an optional activity, we have found that most students do attend and are grateful for the opportunity to settle in without any older students around.
