St. Francis Update - January 19-23

1/22/2026

St. Francis Update
Week of January 19th to 23rd

Dear St. Francis of Assisi students and families,

Prayer
Lord, we thank you for the many colours, cultures, and customs that we share in this world.
In our differences, unite us by your love.
Enable us to act together to uphold life and to make this world a just and peaceful household for all humanity. Today we ask you: O God, hear our prayer and grant us your peace. Amen

Christian Unity
The traditional date for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is January 18-25. The octave (eight days) has been celebrated continuously since 1894, but was a dream of many Christian leaders since the early years of the 19th century. This week we will celebrate Christian Unity when we gather for our liturgy on Thursday. The theme for 2026 is drawn from Ephesians 4:4 “There is one body and one Spirit”

Semester Two
Monday January 19th was the first day of second semester. Welcome back students!

Explore Program
DEADLINE FEBRUARY 3rd, 2026
What is Explore?
Explore is an intensive French-immersion program that is offered during the spring and summer. If you are interested in learning or improving French and travelling to a new part of Canada, then Explore might be the perfect program for you.
Note: You do not have to have any experience or previous knowledge of French to participate in this program.
Note:  There is a travel subsidy for Yukon students who are accepted and complete the program.
Key reasons why people love to Explore:
  • Learning French
  • Experiencing francophone culture and way of life
  • Connecting with others from across Canada and making friends
  • Traveling to another part of the country
Exploring language and culture through social and travel experiences has never been this rewarding. For some, it’s life-changing!
Program Length
For high school participants 16 and older, EXPLORE institutions offer summer sessions, which last between 31 and 33 days. For 13- to 15-year-olds, three-week summer sessions are available.
For more details and information, go to: https://englishfrench.ca/explore/
If you have specific questions, contact Mme Hamel at [email protected]

Popcorn Fundraiser
St. Francis is selling popcorn to raise some funds for the school and we need your help.
For only $32, you will receive $45 worth of popcorn consisting of six gourmet bags of popcorn including: Original Sweet & Salty, Movie Night, Simply Salted, White Cheddar, Dark Chocolate & Sea Salt and Maple Bacon Caramel.
If you wish to make a purchase, you can bring in cash or a cheque (made out to Klondike Kettle Corn) to the office.  E-Transfers can be sent directly to [email protected].  Should you be able to help sell some more bags, there are order forms available to pick-up in the office.  We would also appreciate if folks could share the attached image on their social media.

Grade 9 to 10 Information
Parent Information Night - the move into grade 10 is a big step.  This is when classes start counting toward graduation. There will be a presentation on graduation requirements/high school credits for the parents of students in grade nine going to grade ten on February 16th from 6:30pm. Hopefully we can answer your questions and fill you in on the last, best three years of your student’s high school experience. Course selection will be the week of February 23rd.

Please do not hesitate to call the school at 667-5901 if you have any questions or concerns. Join us on Instagram @stfrancisyukon.

Blessings,
