St. Francis Update
Week of October 27th to October 31st Dear St. Francis of Assisi students and families, Prayer God of laughter and joy, We turn to you in the way of our ancient ancestors, grateful for the abundance of food and festivity that surrounds us at this time of year. Keep all children safe as they embark on their Halloween revels. Light their way through the dark night and enfold them in love. May the real treat in their lives be grace that multiplies in depth and breadth as they grow older. We pray this will all the saints in heaven. Amen Student Led Conferences Parents are invited, and encouraged, to attend Student Led Conferences on Wednesday November 12th, from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Report Cards will be available for pick up in the front foyer, before going to the classrooms on that day. We are not taking appointments; please come and meet the teachers and see what your children have been learning! Parking A reminder to parents and students regarding parking, morning drop offs and afternoon pickups. The drop off loop is on the north side of the building; the first turn off when travelling on Duke Rd from Lewes Blvd. We are asking everyone to use this location to ensure safety (the staff parking lot is not designed for drop offs). We would also like to remind students to park their cars in the student parking lot. Thank you to parents and those students who drive for using the appropriate parking lot and drop-off loop during morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups. Thank you all for your cooperation in this matter. Catholic Education Week Throughout the week, students were asked to highlight what they love about Catholic Education, and we’d like to share a few of the responses: “I get to learn my religion.” “I love it because I love the environment.” “I like being in a catholic school because standards of respect are higher.” “Being able to openly share my religious experiences with and others and be met with understanding.” “Teachers who can help you, who are the guide to your education.” “I am able to openly speak about my beliefs and learn in a community where I can reflect Gods love.” “Everyone is so welcoming.” “I like it because I like to feel seen, noticed, and belong in somewhere I like to be.” Thank you to all who made Catholic Education Week a wonderful week! Inclement Weather With the snowy weather, we wanted to remind everyone to dress appropriately for the weather, when travelling to school during the winter months. School Messenger – Accurate Contact Information School Messenger is being used extensively for broad communication with school communities. For people to receive relevant information it is important that contact information is accurate. Parents/Guardians, please advise the school office if your contact information has changed. You may contact [email protected] if you have any updates or call us at 867-667-5901. Forms and Fees You should have received forms in the mail regarding school fees. We respectfully ask that you pay fees promptly through cheque, cash or e-transfer [email protected]. In addition, those who return all completed forms by October 31st will be entered into a draw to win a $250 prepaid Visa gift card! Update on Vandalism We would like to provide an update regarding the vandalism that occurred on our school grounds earlier this month. We understand that incidents of this nature can be concerning for our community, and we appreciate your patience and support as we've worked with local law enforcement. We are pleased to inform you that, following a thorough investigation by the RCMP, a suspect has been identified and arrested in connection with the incident. The repairs to the damaged windows are nearing completion, and the school is fully operational. We are committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for all our students and staff. We want to thank all the families who may have shared information or voiced their concerns. We would also like to thank the RCMP for their diligence, and all those within YG – Education, Facilities, Property Management, to name a few - your commitment to the safety of our school community is invaluable. Please know that as this is now a matter within the criminal justice system, we are limited in the specific details we can share. However, we felt it was important to update you on the outcome of the investigation to provide reassurance and closure. Please do not hesitate to call the school at 667-5901 if you have any questions or concerns. Join us on Instagram @stfrancisyukon.
