St. Francis Update

Dear St. Francis of Assisi students and families, 
 
October is a month that we pause to recognize all the ways we are grateful through prayer and time spent in gratitude. In this month of Thanksgiving, let us make an effort to sit with our families and share what we are grateful for each day. This simple act will help to build connections, help support positive mental health and bring smiles to the ones we love.  
 
Prayer 
Thank you, Lord, for the blessings you have bestowed on my life. You have provided me with more than I could ever have imagined. You have surrounded me with people who always look out for me. You have given me family and friends who bless me every day with kind words and actions. They lift me up in ways that keep my eyes focused on you and make my spirit soar. 
I am extremely grateful for all of your blessings in my life, Lord. I pray that you remind me of just how blessed I am and that you never allow me to forget to show my gratitude in prayer and returned acts of kindness. Amen. 
St. Francis Feast and Celebration 
On Friday October 4th, our feast to celebrate St. Francis will be held in our school’s cafeteria. Please join us between 5-7 pm for a spaghetti dinner to celebrate. The spaghetti plate is without charge, but you can bring cash if you want to buy dessert from our Senior Volleyball Girls team. Our senior volleyball girls’ team will be selling baked goods during the dinner. You are all invited to join us! 
 
Truth and Reconciliation Gathering 
Thank you to everyone who attended and participated in our gathering last Wednesday. We thank Elder Annie Bernard and Elder Roger Ellis for sharing their stories with us. 
 
School Photos 
Picture Day is today, Tuesday October 1st and Wednesday October 2nd. Students in grades 10, 11 and 12 will be on Tuesday, and students in grade 8 and 9 will be on Wednesday. 
  
Forms and Fees 
You should have received forms in the mail regarding school fees. We respectfully ask that you pay fees promptly through cheque, cash or e-transfer [email protected]. In addition, those who return all completed forms by October 11th will be entered into a draw to win a $250 prepaid Visa gift card! 
 
Scent Aware Building 
Scent sensitivity…The chemicals used in scented products can affect some people, especially those with fragrance sensitivities, asthma, allergies and other medical conditions. In consideration of others, please avoid using scented products.  
 
Morning Supervision 
A reminder to parents and students that morning supervision does not begin until 8:00 am. 
 
Food Drive 
The Whitehorse Schools Food Drive is coming up on Wednesday October 16th. This Food Drive provides students TWO opportunities to get service-learning hours, by: 
 

1. Dropping off empty bags to homes in Riverdale and Whistle Bend at the end of next week (students may do this together as a group of friends), and; 
   

1. Picking up bags full of donations on the evening of October 16th and bringing them down to the Food Bank for sorting. 
   

We need parents to volunteer as drivers! Please reach out to [email protected] if you can offer to be a driver – students may also drive if they have a license.  
 
StFA Clothing Store 2024/2025 
Thursday October 3rd is the last day to order at https://urstore.ca/group/stfa-bts-and-volleyball-shop. All items will be shipped to the school, so you won't need to pay any shipping fees. This will be the only clothing sale this year (outside of sport sales) and a portion of sales will go towards supporting St. Francis activities, so get your items now! Orders must be received by October 3rd or we will not be able to process any orders after the deadline. 
 
Grad Fundraiser 
The Grads will be hosting a craft fair on December 14th as a fundraiser. The Christmas Craft Fair will be held here at the school. Grads will also run a concession near the gym, with food and drink for purchase. Please click here for further information if you would like to be a vendor or if you know of someone who may be interested.
