St. Francis Update

10/7/2024

Dear St. Francis of Assisi students and families,

Lord God, in your goodness you provide for the needs of all your children. Remember all individuals and organizations who work together to relieve hunger, pain and suffering in the world and who serve in places we cannot go. Fill them with the strength of your Spirit, keep them safe from all harm, and give them hope and strength to carry on. Bless their efforts, and may their commitment lead us to recognize that we too have a role to play in helping those in need and inspire us to take action. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

St. Francis Feast and Celebration
Thank you so much to all who attended our spaghetti dinner last week. It was a great turnout! Again, we would like to thank Tony’s Pasta for catering and Yukon Food for Learning; without food, we would not have been able to gather as we had. A thank you must also go out to our School Council and to the staff and students who helped behind the scenes. We hope to gather again soon, as it was great fun and conversation!

Fire Prevention Week
October 6th to 12th is Fire Prevention Week across North America. Fire Prevention Week is a great time to learn about fire safety with kids. This year’s theme is “Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for You.”
Students and their families can take simple steps to keep themselves safe from fires at home:
  • Test your smoke alarms every month, and replace them every ten years.
  • Learn the sound of your smoke alarm. Make sure everyone knows that when the smoke alarm sounds, it is time to get out and call 9-1-1.
  • Take the time to plan fire escape routes from your home. Make sure everyone in the home understands how to get out of the house from any room.
  • Once you have an escape plan, practice it regularly.
  • Once a smoke alarm goes off, you might have two minutes or less to safely get out of your home.
You can find more information about Fire Prevention Week online, including links to activities, games and lesson plans from the National Fire Protection Association, at www.yukon.ca/fireprevention.
