St. Francis Weekly Email - Jan 29-Feb 2

1/29/2024

Dear St. Francis of Assisi students and families,

Prayer
Lord our God, we thank you that we may be your children and may be led by your hand. Give us patience and faith, especially when our way on earth seems difficult and life is full of grief and hardship. You are light. You show us the right path. You go before us in the self-denial and patience taught us by your Word. Protect us on all our ways. May your kingdom grow among us until it can be plainly seen that you, O God, are truly with us doing your work and bringing us joy, even though what we do seems fruitless. But your work endures. In your work we rejoice, and we want to give thanks to you every day. Amen.

Christian Unity
Thank you to Rachel Grantham from Whitehorse United Church, Rev. Michelle Porco from Riverdale Baptist Church, Pastor Ben McPherson from Bethany Church, and Fr. Szwagrzyk from Sacred Heart Cathedral for their participation in last week’s Christian Unity liturgy. We are happy that they could celebrate with us.

Parking
A reminder to parents and students regarding parking, morning drop offs and afternoon pickups. The drop off loop is on the north side of the building; the first turn off when travelling on Duke Rd from Lewes Blvd. We are asking everyone to use this location to ensure safety (the staff parking lot is not designed for drop offs). We would also like to remind students to park their cars in the student parking lot. Thank you all for your cooperation in this matter.

Parent Workshop
The Family Resource Unit will be facilitating a workshop this evening, January 30th, in the Learning Commons at 6:00 pm. This is a support program for Yukon families and caregivers prenatally to those with children aged 19 years and under.
This parent support group is offered to support you and your family in achieving your goals, assisting with family functioning, supporting you with your relationships with your child and adolescents, and any other relevant topics to Yukon families.
Topic: Talking with your Teen: Navigating Risky Behavior

Shrove Tuesday
Join us on Tuesday February 13th in the morning for our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Breakfast! Enjoy pancakes and sausage with your family, from 7:30 – 10:00 am in the cafeteria. We will be accepting donations. Hope to see you there!

Catholic Education Association of Yukon updates:
  • CEAY is excited to participate in the symposium for staff formation hosted by our Catholic Education partners in Alberta in February and anticipates being able to more effectively meet our strategic planning goal to foster staffs' efficacy in ensuring a distinctly Catholic learning environment from this work.
  • CEAY is continuing work on association communication processes, roles, orientation for school councils, and advocacy work with the Department of Education for Catholic Education in Yukon.
To be a Director of CEAY requires nomination from your school council; check in with your council for more information on this process and ceayukon.ca for more information on our work.
  • Consider nomination for the critical role of school council member for your school this spring. Nominations will open in March and elections will be held in early May. More information to come. Connect with your school council or [email protected] with any questions.

Please do not hesitate to call the school at 667-5901 if you have any questions or concerns.

Blessings,
The St. Francis of Assisi Admin Team,
