Dear St. Francis of Assisi students and families,
Prayer Dear Lord, Sharing the loaves and fishes, You gave us an image of solidarity with the hungry, O Lord. Sharing yourself in the bread and wine, You called all to the table, O Lord. Give me the hunger to be a part of the feeding And the healing of this world. Nourish me with your Grace, So I may work with joy to serve your children. Open my eyes and my heart To recognize those in poverty And increase my awareness Of the structures and systems That need to be changed So we may all break bread together. In your name we pray for the end of hunger. Amen Food Drive Food Drive is tomorrow! Thank you to the student and parent volunteers who helped organize bags last week. Food Drives are a fantastic way to support community! Computers for Schools If your child is interested in applying for a laptop through Computers in Schools. Vision Screening Vision screening with our Grade 8 students is almost complete. A letter will be sent home if follow-up with an optometrist is recommended. YFNED Advocates Yukon First Nation Education Advocates work to increase a sense of belonging, self-respect, and pride in heritage for all Indigenous students. They provide support, guidance, and advocacy to deliver culturally inclusive programming within schools, and work with the school to improve the academic achievement of Indigenous students. This year we are pleased to welcome Tanis and Bria as the First Nation Advocates here at St. Francis. Tanis and Bria are excited to work closely with school staff, knowledge holders, Elders and youth to advocate for student supports and place a strong focus on cultural programming and land-based learning. Canadian Youth Road Safety Week Canadian Youth Road Safety Week is just around the corner, running from October 20 to 26, 2025. This national initiative aims to raise awareness among young and new drivers about the dangers of risky driving behaviors like distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding, and not wearing seatbelts. This campaign is crucial in encouraging safer driving habits. For a quick guide to help teens stay focused on the road, or tips for parents on discussing safe driving with your teens, click here. Catholic Education Week is October 18-24, 2025 This year, we celebrate Catholic Education Week, united in gratitude for the gift of Catholic schools and the faith that shapes our learning and our lives. This year’s theme, “Anchored in Christ, Beacon of Hope,” invites us to reflect on the strength and stability that come from placing our trust in Jesus. In a world that can feel uncertain and overwhelming, Christ is our anchor—steady, unchanging, and always present. Barn Dance Invitation SFA school council is kick-starting fundraising for a mural mosaic project in the school, similar to what exists in our other Catholic schools. We are seeking donations of silent auction items for a community dance we are hosting on Saturday October 25, 2025 at SFA. Everyone is invited to this all ages event; click here for the invitation! If you are able to assist in donation of silent auction items and/or baked goods to support this event and goal, please contact Katherine at [email protected].
