St. Francis Update

5/23/2023

St. Francis Update
Week of May 22nd to 26th

Dear St. Francis of Assisi students and families,

To recognize Jesus in the world, people need to see him through us and our words and actions.  We need to reflect on what it means to be cooperative contributors to our communities. This means, that we are helpful in our homes, friendships, classrooms, teams, and with other groups working for worthy causes.
Let us pray:
God, your Gospel of Life calls us to work
in communion with one another
as we help build Your Kingdom.
Lord, help us to find meaning and dignity in the works we do.
Open our ears to hear your voice clearly
Open our eyes to see your beauty in all
Open our minds so our understanding
may break down walls of fear and prejudice.
Bless our schools and communities
as places of friendship
as places of belonging
and as places of welcome
where everyone feels safe
where everyone has a place
where all are united in You, dear God.
As members of one family in Jesus we continue our day in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

St. Francis Update

5/15/2023

Dear St. Francis of Assisi students and families,

Catholics have been celebrating a sort of mother’s day since the first few centuries of the Church. The fourth Sunday of Lent, or Laetare Sunday, traditionally was a time to return to your mother church (home parish) and leave an offering. In Catholic tradition, the month of May is dedicated to Mary. Chosen by God above all other women, Mary’s faith and obedience paved the way for the Incarnation. Her example teaches us faith, obedience, humility and most of all, how to love. And so, we invite you to pray:
Lord Jesus Christ, You chose to put yourself—tiny, needy and helpless—into the nurturing and watchful hands of a human mother. Since then, every act of mothering, both physical and spiritual, in every time and every corner of the world recollects Mary’s. Inspired by this example, we, too, honour our mothers and mother figures. Bless these women, that they may be strengthened as Christian mothers and nurturers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, honour them always with a spirit of profound respect.
We ask this in your holy name. Amen.

St. Francis Email - May 8-12

5/8/2023

Dear St. Francis of Assisi students and families,

We recognize the need to remember that to be prepared for unexpected events in our life means we must work together – we pray for good people to work together in unity, peace, and healing.

Let us pray
Our world needs people of integrity:
whose word is their true promise;
who put a solid character above wealth;
who possess opinions, a strong will and a sharp mind;
who will be as honest in all things;
who will make no compromises in living truth;
whose ambitions go beyond selfish desires to the good of all and our earth;
who will not mindlessly follow "because everybody else does it;"
who are true to their friends through good times and bad,
in hardship as well as in success;
who believe that hard work, faithfulness, honesty and responsibility
are the best qualities for winning success;
who are not ashamed or afraid to stand for the truth when it is unpopular;
who can confidently say "no”, although all the rest of the world says "yes."
Our world needs people of one mind and heart to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
Our world needs people of faith who rely on their God’s wisdom.
Amen.

School Council Update:

St. Francis Update

5/1/2023

Dear St. Francis of Assisi students and families,

In our prayer today, we ask St. Joseph for help with all our work and responsibilities.  May we realize that hard work can be very rewarding and bring us closer to God, one another and give us a deeper understand of who “I” am.
We also remember in our prayers all people of Asian heritage this Asian Heritage Month.
So much to pray for and as always, we need help:
In this month devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary we seek her courage as we pray:
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Mary, the Mother of God …  pray for us
St. Joseph the Worker …  pray for us.
Amen.

Congrats to Athletes
Many of our students participated in the Subzero provincial tournament in BC. Congratulations to all who participated. Congrats to the U 14 boy who brought home gold.
Congratulations to our school Bocce team who participated in the Special Olympics Unified Bocce competition last Friday in Winnipeg.

St. Francis Weekly Email April 24-28

4/25/2023

Dear St. Francis of Assisi students and families,

The world around us is full of renewal as a warming creation dissolves the winter’s hard cold and breathes spring to life. This past Saturday was Earth Day 2023 whose mission is to build the world’s largest environmental movement to drive transformative change for people and planet. This kind of movement makes real the ongoing power of the Resurrection - making things new again and it is our responsibility to do what we can. In the beauty of the earth, we can see reflections of the beauty of God.

Prayer
Open our eyes,
Open our ears,
To the lesson of creation so that we may learn:
The joy of flowers dancing in the April sun;
The strength of a blade of grass pushing through earth;
The stillness of a northern lake reflecting a full moon;
The insistence of young birds yearning to live;
And to fly …
May the sunlight and the rain be reminders that You are at work renewing the earth.
As a God of renewal, You are ever at work in our lives, too.
Open our eyes to the needed changes in our lives this Spring.
Awaken us to new life and perspective, for this we pray in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

Territorial Skills Competition
Congratulations to the St. Francis students who competed in last weeks Territorial Skills competition. Each student brought home a medal - Baking Silver Medal, Welding Silver Medal and Carpentry Gold Medal. All three competitors worked extremely hard to achieve these stellar results!

St. Francis Easter Message

4/6/2023

Dear St. Francis of Assisi students and families,

Dear God, thank You for sacrificing Your only begotten Son so that through Him we may be saved. Father, during the Easter season in schools, we ask and pray for the true meaning of Easter to come alive in the hearts of your children. We pray that every child will recognize and appreciate what was done for them on the cross so that they could have eternal life. Therefore, we pray that every child will receive the message of Easter, which is the love of God, Amen.
Reminder that Friday, April 7 and Monday, April 10 are statutory holidays and there is no school.

Blessings,
The St. Francis of Assisi Admin Team,
Alethea Wallace, A/Principal; Mia Ouellette, A/Vice-Principal; Janet Clarke, A/Vice Principal

St. Francis Weekly Update - April 3-7

4/3/2023

Dear St. Francis of Assisi students and families,

Prayer for Holy Week

O Father, most merciful, in the beginning you created us,
And by the passion of your only Son you created us anew.
Work in us now, both to will and to do what pleases you. Since we are weak and can do no good things by ourselves,
Grant us your grace and heavenly blessing, that in whatever work we engage we may do all to your honor and glory.
Keep us from sin and empower us daily to do good works,
That as long as we live in the body we may always perform service to you.
After our departure give us pardon of all our sins, and receive us to eternal life;
Through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.

OurSchool Survey
Students will be participating in the OurSchool Survey this week. This survey allows students to share their feedback anonymously on their experiences at school, school environment, and school improvement programs. Please see the attached letter for more information. Click here.

Student Led Conferences
Report cards will be sent home next week. Please save the date: Thursday April 20th for our Student Led Conferences (3:30pm to 7:00pm).

Yearbooks
The 2023 Yearbook is now for sale! This will be the first St. Francis of Assisi yearbook ever. Not only are you getting a memento of all the amazing things we do here - you’re also getting a piece of history. For Yearbook 2022, we had a sizeable waiting list at the beginning of this year for people who did not order one when they had the opportunity. Unfortunately, most people on that list did not get the 2022 Yearbook. We only receive enough books to fill orders placed on time. I would love if everyone here at SFACSS had a Yearbook in their hands! Let’s make it happen this year.
The Yearbook costs $40 and all orders must be in by May 26th. Orders ship in September and are picked up at the school. Click here! Or scan the QR code on any Yearbook 2023 posters around the school. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
